"Pancho" the sailors call gringos who come to this jewel in Chile and not mistaken, has a strong resemblance to the Californian city, the structure rises and falls, of hill after hill , hilly streets, the elevators , the house forms and colors which decorate inevitably recall to San Francisco. Another version says it was because the first thing they saw was the church of San Francisco. A choice of versions. The two cities, however, have a great British influence in their architecture. And it shows. Valparaiso is possibly the most beautiful city I have found in Chile, in all respects. Disneyland is not a type, in which everything is
perfect, nor is it a disaster. Has its own life is dynamic, workers, students and navy, the ubiquitous Chilean navy. Its streets are an adventure, often staggered, which do not know what you'll encounter. So many, so small and so inclined to pass several times but it always going to discover a new perspective, a new look, something that occurs in cities with flat streets.
ports, machinery
The cities that overlook the sea have something beautiful, that give back are lost. Ports close to people from other places, bringing new blood, outsiders and bring down their customs. Enriched. In addition, ports have a very specific equipment is not visible in inner cities. Ships, boats, cranes, containers, paint a landscape full of color. Valparaíso port overlooking the bay and is visible from all the hills. Its cranes are monsters who work piece and are able to land a container and put it in the spring in two minutes. Yes, two minutes. Very strong. I saw them work at night, sitting on the terrace of Portobello, my residence, while writing and smoking. Ate a boat in a flash.
Spray city. Street art
"Pancho" is also university and you do not go to visit them, the universities, there are so many! Is sensed. In street art. Be students, not toil. They are different messages. Valparaiso walk is fun, you often find yourself with lots of graffiti without text but with some sparkle graphics, walls, curbs and stairs (do not forget that this city is tilted). The pity is that the imagination can not rise further and the reasons they are not more varied. Repeat. Furthermore, this city has some mural tradition and reflect so many walls.
La Sebastiana, home of the master
A Neruda could think like me, we like the sea to be near him, but not to be within him. That was his relationship with Valparaiso. His house, La Sebastiana is on top of a hill overlooking the bay, contemplative poetry needs, now a museum, where they collect their memories, their art gallery and part of his books. The house was looted and books burned by the hosts of Pinochet. I turned to thrill, as I did in Frida's house, reading his writings. I felt alone again. I wanted to have a love close, I wanted to love someone, I came to remember women who want but fail to catch my heart. I was a ruin by not appreciating the beauty given to me. I felt selfish and lost. Unfortunately the photos in this stage, I've lost, would you say something?
Amores travelers, ephemeral love
are very complicated if you go legal, if you tell the truth, otherwise, no, it is very easy: you meet a woman you like, I do so she can promise the moon and the stars and go. I am not well and would be easier, I would save complications. Every woman I've met have told the truth about my life, I've sent to my journal, my blog and I have made to understand that I am here today and gone tomorrow, I can not promise anything and that ultimately I can not love, my true love on this trip are the highways, roads, cities and landscapes, not forgetting the most important: people. I do not deny that I would love to say I found the woman of my life, you do not loose, but did not come predisposed to it, nor wanted. From the beginning I learned that any relationship would be short-lived and I know that there are women that hurts. Sorry.
A trip to Viña del Mar
I was a week before the festival, a day visit. Unnoticed, is a posh town and summer resort of the middle class in Santiago. no need to go. Is the center the Chilean faránbula of celebrity, joke and silicone there, in the sense of the word TV. Chilly water beaches, apartment buildings, a floral clock and little else. The most interesting is a small museum dedicated to the culture of Rapa Nui, Easter Island, so to speak. Valparaiso is attached to a modern underground flows on the surface near the sea, it's nice to visit it. What a disappointment, I expected more.
